Get Thee to Madison

With great vim and great vigor,

the young teachers and state workers

gathered and

sang patriotic songs

at the Capitol

staking their claim on

being American

enough

to deserve the

benefits

so rightly claimed

long ago.

Tea party-ers due to

arrive on Saturday

and the fourteen

Democratic senators have

fled to the Illinois border

to drink beer, perhaps,

and sauna at the local hotel,

a little R and R

while

the governor

benevolently

through semi-

History in the Making

dictatorial, tough-love boldness,

makes history.

One Response to Get Thee to Madison

  1. Photodiction says:

Even though removed from American politics, one still gets a sense of something momentous being wished for. It’s an interesting notion to stake a claim on “being american enough” – in a sense the struggle in all countries between those that want to claim by birthright and those that strive to become part of the fabric when their origins were else where. Then again, we are all sometimes strangers in our own land.
